To enable Java content, you'll have to install an old, 32-bit version of Firefox and then manually add the Java plugin. This is possible on Windows computers, but Firefox for Mac defaults to 64-bit, making it impossible to install Java for Firefox on a Mac. Yesterday I updated Java to 'Version 8 Update 131 (build 1.8.0131-b11)', and I can longer use Java plugins on any version of Firefox, which means I can no longer access the VPN. Security researcher Gregory Fleischer reported avulnerability in the way Mozilla indicates the origin of a document to theJava Embedding Plugin (JEP) that ships with Firefox on Mac OS X. Thisvulnerability could allow a malicious Java applet to bypass the same-originpolicy and create arbitrary socket connections to other domains.

  • Apple has not released security fixes for Java 6 update 45 and known security issues exist.
  • Apple's recommendation is to upgrade your operating system, then install Java 7.
